NEW RELEASE: Best Lesbian Erotica!

February 14, 2016 by Harper Bliss 9 Comments

BLE Blog Tour

My turn on the Best Lesbian Erotica 20th Anniversary Blog Tour! You can rest assured I’ve been waiting for this day for a loooong time! 😉 First of all, having one of my stories included in a volume of Best Lesbian Erotica is a dream come true and I’m so proud of having made the cut and, secondly, my story ‘Reunion Tour’ is, to this day, and in my humble opinion, the best short story I’ve written.

It’s the only story I’ve written in 2nd person POV so far and while doing so, I was shamelessly picturing Debbie Harry lusting after a much younger female lead singer. (This story appeared first in the Ladylit mini-anthology Cougars and we all know how I feel about older women…) 😉 To sum it up, ‘Reunion Tour’ contains three of my very favourite things: music, a May/December affair and a healthy dose of spanking. (I’m a simple girl at heart.) 😉

Before I leave you with an excerpt, this blog post comes with a giveaway! All you have to do is leave a comment and you’ll have a chance to win a copy of Best Lesbian Erotica. This can be a comment on this blog post (do say hello) or on any of the other blog tour contributors’ websites. Leave the comment before 27 February. The winner will be announced on 5 March. Good luck!

Excerpt

You’re a cocky little thing up there. The way you wriggle your ass—I can’t wait to stripe it with my belt. I watch you from the side of the stage. If this were a festival in Europe, my band would be headlining, but here in our home country, yours gets the number one spot. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t smart a little. I may have to take that out on you as well. It’s a win-win, really, the way you bat your lashes—your head twisted up to me—when my hand comes down on your flesh, always defying me to give more. And, when it comes to you, I never fail to have more to give.

You shimmy to the edge of the stage, lifting your arms high above your head, giving your fans—and me—a glimpse of your pale, taut belly and the little silver ring driven into the delicate skin above your belly-button.

“No one will know what it means,” I said when I arranged for Lisa to administer the piercing. “Only the two of us.” Now, every time you flash it, every single time you bare this glittering symbol of whatever we have between us for the world to see, something pierces me, too. A wave of something I don’t wish to define washes over me. I’m old enough to recognize it instantly, but still foolish enough to deny it.

Because you drive me crazy, make me feel things I haven’t felt in years. Not even taking the stage again, after a nine year hiatus, flanked by Tommy and Matthew and Sam, my brothers in arms since 1981, affected me in the same way as the first time I saw that glint in your eyes. All it took was one glance, and I knew.

You flick your head to the right, momentarily pinning your eyes on me, and the whole motion thunders through me, leaves my panties drenched. Speaking of, you’re wearing a pair of mine underneath those leather trousers—the ones that hug your ass so sublimely I need to catch my breath every time you present your back to me on the stage.

“Please allow me to present to you the next big thing,” my manager said. “The Harriettes.” You were obviously their leader, the way you hung back a bit—the way I learned to do all those years ago—to allow the others to shine during moments of lesser importance, like being introduced to a band long past its prime.

“Oh my god,” your bass player giggled. “We are such huge fans. You are our biggest inspiration.” It sounded a bit rehearsed, what with her not even being born yet the year we broke through. You appeared smarter, more composed, shrouded in that cool sort of silence that no one can take issue with.

When we shook hands, though, I detected the slightest hint of sweat on your palm, and when you met my gaze, I knew. I’m old enough to know.

You take your first of many faux-modest bows. After five months on the road, I know your routine by heart. I can only imagine the adrenalin coursing through your blood right now. Not that it doesn’t still happen to me, but the years have taken away the highest highs. I’ve learned to put it all into perspective more, to see the long-run—the end game. But I hope you’re enjoying this moment, because it truly is glorious. Unencumbered by self-consciousness, lifted up by the incessant roar of the thousands of people in front of you, that one moment you sang and strutted your ass off for the past forty-five minutes. The higher your high, the more you’ll want me after.

Enjoy! (And don’t forget the giveaway!)

My top 10 stories in Girl Fever

July 29, 2012 by Harper Bliss Leave a Comment

Girl Fever I really enjoyed this flash fiction anthology. Because the 69 stories were so short it seemed to be never-ending (in a good way). Another advantage of having so many stories in one book is the amazing variety on display. You know how the saying goes… ‘there’s something for everyone’. Well, there are multiple somethings for everyone here.

The reason why I decided to put together a top 10 is because (I really like lists) when I started reading what would later wind up as my favourite story, I sighed with desperation at the science fiction genre and space craft setting. But the beauty of this book, apart from the array of styles and genres it assembles, is in the length of the stories. Maybe, if the space story had been more than (approximately) 1000 words, I would have moved on (time is precious and there is so much to read, you know). But because I knew that it would only take five minutes, I continued and I was so amazed by its humour and sexy plot twists.

Obviously we all have different tastes and I like some stories better than others. This top 10 is merely meant to be a list of ten good reasons why you should read this book (apart from the fact that it’s really hot).

1. Oh Captain, My Captain by Cha Cha White
This is the story I referred to earlier. I couldn’t stop grinning after reading it. Apart from being well-written, it’s hilarious, sexy and has an authority figure melting at the tongue of a subordinate (and that always does it for me.)

2. Freeway Falling by Cal Gimpelevich
I love the staccato writing in this one and the urgency it creates. The setting (in a car on the freeway) is evoked expertly and, most importantly, the sex is hot.

3. Caramel by Louise Blaydon
Short, fluid, poetic and excellent.

4. Submission Letter by Tara Young
The title says it all.

5. Heat Lightning by Sommer Marsden
My kind of story. Eloquent, romantic and hot.

6. I Wish I Knew You by Cheyenne Blue
A woman married to a republican watches her lesbian neighbours go at it from the breakfast table. Very dramatic.

7. Ignition switch by Delilah Devlin
That’s what friends are for.

8. Breathless by Ariel Graham
Two women bump into each other while running. Sexy stuff ensues. Hot and, in some way, very recognisable.

9. Lure by Nikki Magennis
I adore the writing in this one. Why? Here’s an example that makes me swoon. “We hid indoors for two days, pecking inquisitively, opening each other up and looking inside.”

10. Love Las Muertas by Kirsty Logan
Erotic romance excellence in 1000 words

Honourable mention to Season Finale by Lea Meadows because any story (kind of) featuring Detective Olivia Benson is obviously brilliant.

Girl Fever is published by Cleis Press and edited by Sacchi Green

PS Ladylit’s summer promo extravaganza is still hot and happening!
