EllCon was great (*)!

(*) Apart from me mumbling my way through the one panel I was on, that is. (I’ll just stick to writing from now on.) 😉

I think it’s fair to say lesfic writers don’t get to have regular conversations with other lesfic writers, especially not in the flesh. So having the opportunity to talk shop with fellow authors is always lovely, even for overly sensitive introverts like myself.

Here’s a picture of my Mrs and me with lesfic great Jae:

Other things that occurred:

  • Kiki Archer managed to sell me one of her paperbacks even though I only ever read ebooks
  • Emma Nichols charmed the pants off me by calling me a ‘legend’
  • Miranda MacLeod came all the way from the US and surprised me with her drinking skills
  • Andrea Bramhall thoroughly impressed me during the ‘Realistic Characters’ panel (so much so that I promptly bought one of her books — yup, in paperback — so she could sign it!)
  • Justine ‘Have you read the classics?’ Saracen turned out to live in Brussels (and Lise Gold lived in Hong Kong while we were there!)
  • TB Markinson almost convinced me to read Great Expectations (but not quite)
  • Claiming that leather jackets cause microphone feedback is a great way to get lesfic authors to strip off their clothes
  • Getting hangry happens to the best of us (even to my always-cool co-writer Clare Lydon) 😉

All things that would never have happened/I wouldn’t have found out about if it hadn’t been for EllCon.

I hope Zara, Gerd & the other organisers are already making plans for next year!

We also LOVED Bristol (and can’t wait to go back next year.)

New paperbacks (and a few other things)

January 25, 2016 by Harper Bliss 2 Comments

Paperbacks!

We (and when I say ‘we’, in this instance I actually mean my wife who does SO MUCH behind-the-scenes work) figured out a way to speed up the paperback creation process and Seasons of Love is available in print already! You can get the paperback version only from Amazon from now, but other retailers like Barnes & Noble and The Book Depository should follow soon:

  • Amazon US
  • Amazon UK

Meanwhile, the print version of Release the Stars has arrived as well. Links here:

  • Amazon US
  • Amazon UK

And… after going ‘wide’ (it’s how it’s called now) for less than a week, we’ve decided to enrol Seasons of Love in KDP Select and make it available for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. Honestly, it was a no-brainer after the sales figures for Release the Stars came in earlier this week. That book has done so well for a humble lesbian romance and I’m under no illusion that it would have performed (anywhere near) the same without the push KDP Select provides. The extra visibility a book gets when enrolled in the program is priceless. I’m all about reaching as many readers as possible and, for now at least, being exclusive to Amazon seems to be the way to go. Here are the Amazon KU links:

  • Amazon US
  • Amazon UK
  • Amazon CA
  • Amazon AUS
  • Amazon DE

Big thank-you to everyone who has already bought Seasons of Love! The book is doing well and the reviews are blowing my mind! (I don’t know how I’m going to follow up on this one either…) (Maybe with a huge dose of lesbian drama in French Kissing: Season Three…) 😉

Just one more tidbit before I sign off. I’m currently running a poll on what my next book should be after I finish my current work in progress (Far From The World We Know, almost done after LOADS of dilly-dallying!) and the one I’ve planned after that (a rom com called The Road To You). You can help me decide by voting below:

NEW RELEASE: Release the Stars

December 21, 2015 by Harper Bliss 2 Comments

RTS_ebook_final_newsletterToday is the ‘official release day’ for Release the Stars, though it has been available from Amazon since Friday, making for a bit of a crazy weekend at Casa Bliss. 😉 Release the Stars is my third full-length standalone novel (that’s not counting French Kissing and High Rise) and it most certainly won’t be my last. (The next one’s almost ready! ;-))

Release the Stars tells the story of Charlie Cross , a novelist turned screenwriter who moves to Hollywood after suffering some major heartbreak in New York.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write a story about a writer moving to Hollywood and having finally done it is a big source of satisfaction. Charlie is very rough around the edges and, really, needs to be re-schooled in love. And who better to accomplish that than a gorgeous TV cooking show host?

There are quite a few dramatic twists and turns in this book, a hilarious gay side-kick and a very wise lesbian best friend. There’s softball, glitzy Hollywood parties, lots of drinking (as usual), and a gorgeous Malibu beach. This is one of my tamer books, I must admit. I wanted to tone it down a little after Once in a Lifetime, which (for me) pushed the boundaries quite a bit. In the end, it’s a pretty straightforward love story (because deeply flawed characters deserve love too!)

I hope you enjoy Charlie’s journey (because, boy, does she need to go on one!)

Here’s the blurb for Release the Stars:

Can love be measured in percentages?

After her girlfriend leaves her for a man, broken-hearted novelist Charlie Cross moves from New York to Los Angeles to work on a TV show based on her books. Charlie vows to never date any woman who isn’t a hundred percent certain of being a lesbian.
