French Kissing: Episode Six

Well, here we are, Episode Six (aka The Season Finale) is out! For the release of the boxed set (planned for next week) I’ll be doing some retrospective blog posts on what I’ve learned from writing a serial, who my favourite character is (despite, of course, loving them all equally!) and to reveal my ‘fantasy casting’. But, for now, I’m just enjoying the moment of having finished this rather epic undertaking.

It all started from two pages of scribbled notes six months ago, and trust me, these characters, as they grew, have surprised me greatly along the way as well. 😉 It was my initial plan to start on Season Two quite quickly after Season One (with just a break for writing a novel in between), but I think I’ll give myself a bit more time. For me (e.g. a person with a very short attention span), spending six months on (basically) one story is very long. But, I promise to have the first episode of the new season out in January 2015. (There should be enough resolution at the end of Episode Six to tide us all over for a bit.) 😉

That being said, writing this first season of French Kissing was so much fun and I hope that comes across on the page (or e-reader screen). I have such a soft spot for all six (Dominique Laroche included!) of the characters and I hope the season finale leaves you satisfied.

NEW RELEASE: French Kissing: Episode Two

Through nobody’s fault but my own (I screwed up the ISBN when sending it to the distributor), French Kissing: Episode Two appeared on Amazon a week later than I had promised, but at last, all is right in my (French Kissing-obsessed) universe again.

I won’t be giving too much information on the separate episodes as they are released to avoid spoilers. For the same reason, I won’t copy the full blurb, I will only say this:

In Episode Two of French Kissing some things are not what they seem, secrets come out and new players emerge, causing more trouble and drama for the ladies of Barbier & Cyr and their loved ones.

I’m about to wrap up the first draft of Episode Four, which is shaping up to be quite dramatic as well, but not as dramatic on all fronts as Episode Two is. 😉 Episode Three, which will be available from most retailers in two weeks’ time, will offer a bit more breathing room (but not that much.) 😉

At the end of this week, I’m going to Belgium for two weeks for a family visit and this will push back the release of Episode Four to mid April. And, of course, just to remind you, all episodes will be available as a boxed set in June. It may make for a good beach read if you prefer to binge on all six episodes at once.

French Kissing

I’m about to finish the first draft of the first episode of my new series called French Kissing. It’s set in Paris, has four main characters (and corresponding points of view), lots of drama and a few sexy scenes to keep the juices flowing. 😉 The blurb will follow later, but I wanted to talk a little about the format of this series and my plans with it.

French Kissing is a project of rather epic proportions. Each episode will be about 25.000 words long and I will write 6 episodes per season. The idea is to, ultimately, create multiple seasons. This means that the individual novellas will not be stand-alone stories, but parts of an ongoing serial.

I had to get out of pantser-mode and plot the first season (to distribute the drama over all 6 episodes) which in the end, all episodes combined, will amount to 150.000 words of lesbian erotic romance. And that’s just season one. (As I said, quite epic. ;-0) It’s far removed from my usual 10.000 words stand-alone novelettes, but I have had some practice with the High Rise series. The most common question I get about High Rise is whether there will be a sequel, which is why I decided to devise French Kissing in this serialised way. If it does well, it never has to end.

The plan is to release the first episode around the end of February, with a new instalment every month. From the beginning of February onwards I’ll start introducing the four main characters on here. I’ll talk about the setting, why I chose Paris and how my wife convinced me to, for once, include a couple in a long-term relationship in one of my stories. 😉

Creating this series is a new way of doing things for me, but this is the brave new world of publishing after all (and I’ve grown quite fond of my four characters already, so I believe in it with all my heart.) 2014 is going to be very exciting (I’ll have more thrilling news to share soon) and I hope you’ll join me on the ride.

NEW RELEASE: I Still Remember

I Still Remember by Bloc Party is one of my favourite songs because of the simple, pure and direct emotion the first lines evoke every single time I listen to it. One day I was walking down the street with my headphones on, listening to a random playlist, when it came on, and instantly I felt it again. A connection to the lyrics and the melody and the immediate nostalgia the song provoked, and I knew I wanted to capture that emotion in a story. That bittersweet feeling of reminiscing about the first teenage crush that mattered, the one that changed everything and, perhaps, made you realise something about yourself. That’s what my new novelette I Still Remember is about.

While this story definitely breaks my record of erotic scenes per book, it’s also fiercely romantic and every sexual act has a strong emotional root. I enjoyed writing it so much and I can only hope that joy found its way onto the page. It has all my favourite elements: lesbians, nostalgia, a massage and lots of feelings. (But no blouses open at the throat this time, sorry. ;-p)

The Complete High Rise Collection
